The Legacy of ALAJUELA CITY Hotel & Guest House

Nestled in the heart of the city, ALAJUELA CITY Hotel & Guest House is a true oasis. Located just 8 minutes from the SJO-San Jose/Juan Santamaria International Airport, our hotel offers convenience and comfort.

Originally a tropical Victorian home, now known as ALAJUELA CITY Hotel & Guest House, this property was the private residence of the Llobet family, built at the turn of the 20th century.

During the Costa Rican Civil War in 1948, the home served as a hospital for injured soldiers, with the Red Cross operating in its many rooms. The Llobet family was proud to support the war efforts. Additionally, the home functioned as a kindergarten run by the sister of the Llobet family.

In 1998, the transformation of this historic home into a charming boutique hotel began. Due to its proximity to the Poas Volcano and the over 200 volcanic formations in Costa Rica, the family honored Costa Rica as a land of volcanoes, naming the hotel "Hotel Los Volcanes."

Now entering its second decade of operation, the hotel was sold by the original family in 2018 and came under new management. With this change, the hotel was renamed “ALAJUELA CITY Hotel & Guest House.” Despite new visions and ideas, the same attitude of service and hospitality continues. Updated rooms in clean, crisp white with pops of bright colors bring a Costa Rican flair.
